Papua New Guinea Chef De Mission Emma Waiwai says the country's performances at the Commonwealth Games stand them in good stead for next year's Pacific Games in Port Moresby.
PNG were the top-ranked Pacific nation in Glasgow, thanks to weightlifting gold medals from Dika Toua and Steven Kari.
Pacific Games sprint champion Toea Wisil also made it through to the semi finals of the 100m and 200m, while the swimming team achieved a handful of personal bests and national records.
PNG also finished atop the medal table at last year's Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna and Emma Waiwai says that's the goal for next year's event on home soil too.
"Going by what we achieved in [at the last Pacific Games in] New Caledonia, we finished in the top three and so we want to finish in the top three as well but the government is telling us we need to be number one so if we can achieve that well all good and well. With the home crowd behind us we will achieve what the people of PNG want us to achieve".
