Samoa women's rugby coach Euini Lale Faumuina says his players put in a much improved performance despite being on the wrong end of a 42-7 scoreline against Canada at the Rugby World Cup in Paris.

For the second straight match the Manusina were reduced to 14 players with flanker Rita Lilii sent to the sin bin midway through the first half.

Faumuina admits ill discipline is still letting the team down But was pleased with other aspects of their game.

"Things have improved a bit with our defence. Obviously there were some areas on our defence from the game against the English, considering we were down a player or two throughout the game, but a big improvement is quite a big ask when you're playing one of the top teams in World Rugby".

Samoa's final group match is against Spain on Saturday morning.
