Sport: PNG Hunters hoping to stifle Jets attack

6:57 am on 9 August 2014

The Papua New Guinea Hunters coach Michael Marum says his players need to dictate proceedings in this afternoon's must-win clash against Ipswich if they're to keep their Queensland Cup playoff hopes alive.

The Hunters are on a three match winning run but were beaten by the Jets when the teams last met in April.

The Jets also happen to occupy the fifth and final playoff berth at the moment and home win would cut the deficit to just one point.

Michael Marum says with Jets coming off a big win last weekend it's going to be an almighty battle.

"The Jets have got talented players all over the park. All we have to do is probably control our game and make sure we play to our game plan. Their defence needs to be up there: they're a good attacking side but if we don't give them much ball to play with then we can control the game a bit more and make sure we slow their forwards down and make sure they completely shut Jets down. I think the ball possession will be really crucial during this game".

This afternoon's clash at the Kalabond Stadium is the last home game for the Hunters this year, with two away matches and a bye to come.
