1:41 pm on 19 August 2014

The Deputy Prime Minister of Tonga has proposed the Parliament extend its term by one week until September the 11th, and has called on MPs to resume overtime deliberations before the close of parliament.

The Speaker, Lord Fakafanua, has told MPs their work is running behind time due to a series of bills, petitions, and motions that need to be addressed in parliament.

Radio Tonga reports the house is to be closed on September the 4th to enable MPs to prepare for the upcoming November election.

The house is resuming its overtime deliberations this week.
