Indonesian president urges unity in Papua region

Indonesia's outgoing president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called for unity in the Papua region.

Indonesia's Antara news agency reports the president saying on a visit to the province he felt close to the people of the region and urged the local government, community leaders and 'political elements' to work together for development.

The agency reports he says the people of Papua need to maintain togetherness, harmony and tolerance.

Mr Yudhyono pointed out the development budget for the region had increased annually
