The opposition in Kiribati has called in Parliament for the Minister for Women and Youth to be removed from her job, alleging she behaved badly after drinking alcohol.
It called on President Anote Tong to sack the Betio MP, Tangariki Reete, but he rejected the allegations and chided the opposition for not talking to him directly.
The opposition leader, Dr Tetaua Taitai, claimed one incident took place in Tarawa and another during an overseas trip.
The Kiribati Independent reports Dr Tetaua as saying that as a wife, a mother and a cabinet minister, Ms Reete should have acted as a role model.
He claimed the alleged behaviours are against the Kiribati culture.
But President Tong rejected the allegations, saying they are defamatory and can't be proven.
