UN shaping post-2015 agenda

2:50 pm on 1 September 2014

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, says the post-2015 agenda will focus on sustainable goals covering social, economic and environmental dimensions.

With just 500 days until the Millennium Development Goals expire, many have criticised them as being ineffective in parts of the Pacific.

Mr Ban says the goals have not been met in all countries, and scorecards vary.

He says the new set of goals, which the UN is in the process of shaping now, will begin in 2016, and end in 2030.

"We will continue to promote the realisation of the MDGs but this will now be part of the sustainable development goals covering social, environment and economic dimensions of all of our life."
