The Vanuatu Department of Tourism says a new study on cruise tourism has helped identify ways it can increase tourists spending while in the country.
The study was commssioned and funded by the Carnival Australia crusie company, the Australian government and the International Finance Corporation.
It found cruise tourism brings over 31 million US dollars into the Vanuatu economy each year, and provides an estimated 3 thousand jobs.
The Director of Tourism in Vanuatu, George Borugu, says the study found that tourists spend a lot of money on tours and entertainment.
"Now we can do a lot more to improve their experiences on the tours that are existing, and we can also look at creating other tours."
George Borugu says they will also look to improve foods and beverages and locally made handicrafts and art being sold.
He says it's hoped if cruise-tourists enjoy their short time in Vanuatu they will be enticed to return by air for a longer stay.
