Glassie fends off Cooks petition

The Cook Islands High Court has ruled that Nandie Glassie, who won Rarotonga's Tengatangi-Areora-Ngatiarua electorate, will keep his seat after allegations of bribery.

Mr Glassie won the constituency in the election two months ago by 88 votes to 73, with a majority of 15.

His unsuccessful opponent, Eugene Tatuava, issued a petition for an electoral inquiry, alleging Mr Glassie had committed three counts of bribery and undue influence leading up to the election.

The allegations were not upheld, and the court says it will release its reasoning shortly.
