Unpaid workers in Malaita threaten to stop work

8:31 pm on 16 September 2014

The most populated province in Solomon Islands, Malaita, is reported to be in deep financial difficulty, with reports that some provincial workers haven't been paid in six weeks.

The Solomon Star reports that the workers have threatened to stop work if the provincial government does not resolve the problem.

The workers say their families could go hungry if the situation continues.

Both the Malaita Provincial Secretary and his treasurer have refused to comment.
