Vanuatu presidential vote to continue

1:50 pm on 18 September 2014

Vanuatu's Electoral College is to continue its efforts tomorrow to settle on a new president for the country after a third round of voting failed this morning.

None of the 13 candidates has come anywhere near the required two thirds vote from the 52 MPs and six provincial governors.

The frontrunner is a former clerk of parliament, Lino Bulekuli dit Saksak, who got 21 votes today, compared with 16 yesterday afternoon.

Sethy Regenvanu is next on 10, while eight of the candidates got no votes at all.
