Papua New Guinea's deputy opposition leader Sam Basil has urged the Kandep MP Don Polye to join the opposition ranks and sort out a leadership issue later.
Mr Polye's Triumph Heritage and Empowerment Party was recently formally ejected from the Peter O'Neill-led coalition government.
Mr Polye, who has been a vocal critic of the Prime Minister since being sacked as Treasurer in March, has indicated he will move to the opposition if given the role of Opposition Leader, which is currently held by Belden Namah.
Sam Basil says Don Polye should first move into opposition, along with however many THE members remain in support of him, before worrying about who leads the alternative government.
"But as I've said, it's not a matter for us to worry about right now, about who becomes the opposition leader or who doesn't become the opposition leader. All he needs to do is get himself into the opposition, be part of the opposition, and then we can sort ourselves out in the opposition ranks."
