Vanuatu UMP leader scoffs at motion talk

9:12 am on 30 September 2014

A senior Vanuatu opposition MP has scoffed at reports of another motion of no-confidence being prepared against the prime minister Joe Natuman.

The comment from Serge Vohor, who is a former prime minister and leader of the Union of Moderates, comes amid fresh reports that the opposition leader Moana Carcasses is again lobbying to remove the prime minister.

"But he failed twice. He's losing his support. The motion, at the moment, the motion of no-confidence against Joe Natuman is not a priority for this country."

Serge Vohor has dismissed reports of divisions with the opposition over the recent election of Baldwin Lonsdale as the country's new president.

Mr Natuman, who has withstood several attempts to remove him since he came to power in May, has the official backing of 32 MPs.
