South Korea has gifted Fiji's military six Howitzer cannons worth over five million US dollars.

The Fiji Times reports the artillery will be used for ceremonial purposes such as the upcoming Fiji Day celebrations on the 10th of October.

The Military's Chief of Staff, Lieutanant Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho, says the Howitzers will replace the military's old 25 Pounders, which have become obsolete and difficult to source ammunition for.

The military reportedly paid almost 200 thousand US dollars to get the guns to Fiji.
