The Solomon Islands government says local media reports that senior officials have been sacked are untrue.

But it says it has re-shuffled two key staff.

In a statement, the government says the Permanent Secretary of Finance Shadrach Fanega has been moved to Development Planning and Aid Co-ordination.

The new permanent secretary at Finance is Fred Fakarii.

Mr Fakarii will also supervise the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Secretary to Cabinet, James Remobatu, says despite media claims there have been no sackings and the changes are consistent with the Constitution.

Solomon Islands is to hold elections in five weeks.
