A group of young professionals from Pacific island countries is on a month-long course in Taiwan learning about the country's political and economic development.

The Taiwan Times reports the 26 participants from 13 countries are attending a four-week training session under the Pacific Islands Leadership Programme, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the East-West Center in Hawaii.

The training includes courses on Taiwan's foreign aid policies, developments in agriculture, education and environmental protection.

The programme aims to train 125 young leaders over five years.
