The speaker of Fiji's parliament has denied a question by the opposition regarding the country's preparations for if the Ebola virus reached its shores.

Fiji's police force has announced that it will not be sending replacements for a United Nations Mission in Liberia because of the Ebola epidemic gripping the west African country.

Opposition member Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu attempted to file a question asking the health minister to explain what plans are in place to screen the current police contingent when they return from Liberia.

Ratu Naiqama also attempted to ask about the health ministry's plans for screening for, and containing, any suspected cases of Ebola should they reach Fiji.
