The Department of Health in American Samoa has briefed the government on how it would handle a suspected case of Ebola virus.
It has also detailed what it would do to try and to keep the deadly virus out of the territory, how to detect travellers who may have the virus and treatment for carriers.
With the death of one person in the mainland United States and a nurse who treated that first case now having contracted the disease, residents are seeking assurances from health authorities.
The Chief Medical Officer, Tamasoalii Dr. Joseph Tufa, says the Department of Health has plans to identify anyone with symptoms of the disease which includes fever, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pain.
