A former pharmacy manager has been sentenced to five years in jail in Majuro for bribery over hospital contracts.

The former Genesis Island Enterprise RMI manager, Ariane Jay Demayo, initially pleaded not guilty to 52 charges filed earlier this year in the High Court in Majuro.

Last week, he pleaded guilty to 13 counts of bribery in official matters and 13 counts of criminal conspiracy.

His guilty plea confirms an investigation that showed numerous bribes paid to hospital workers to win contracts for medical supplies and equipment worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
