Cooks budget eyes tourism, health and celebrations

The Cook Islands Minister of Finance says tourism, health and the 50-year independence celebrations will be the focus of the coming year's budget.

Mark Brown says the 2014/15 budget will be tabled in Parliament on October the 28th.

He says more money is likely for tourism marketing with the expectation of the use of a new aircraft for flights to Sydney and Los Angeles next year.

He says the nursing school and hospital pharmacy are also in line for a boost.

Mark Brown says the government will be appealing to businesses to help support golden anniversary celebrations.

"We're hoping that the private sector will come on board. There'll be a number of formal or state events that the country will be hosting. And we'll invite private sectors to see which part or the events programme they would like to participate in."
