Su'a Lucia Bartley made the comment in her second bid for the Tuala-uta District seat in the house.

She told a forum hosted by high school students that there's not much interest from locals to work in the canneries, so the territory ends up bringing in workers from Samoa.

"Local American Samoan people do not want to work in the cannery. I was working in the cannery, cleaning fish, eight hours a day, I don't want to do that kind of job. We need to develop the local businesses."

Su'a Lucia Bartley says the territory should generate jobs that high school leavers prefer.
