6:06 pm on 1 November 2014

A House Representative seeking re-election in next Tuesday's election says the government workforce needs to be reduced.

Representative Taotasi Archie Soliai has told a high school forum that the private sector should be developed to generate jobs.

He says the size of the territory's government is at an all-time high with about 7,000 employees, which he says is a major burden on the taxpayer.

He says the private sector is the driver of the economy which has suffered after one of the major employers left the territory.
