Solomons campaigning reaches boiling point

On the eve of elections in Solomon Islands campaigning is at a fever pitch as thousands of supporters take to the streets with political banners and symbols.

More than 400 candidates are contesting 50 seats for a four-year term.

Electoral Commission officials have just completed the reprinting and redistribution of ballot papers for several provincial polling stations.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Polycarp Haununu, says everything is now in place for the polls.

"I am confident we are ready for the elections. All preparations all ballot materials are now in the field and all election officials are ready for tomorrows poll. So we should have the final result by the end of the third day after polling."

Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu says polls open at 7:00am and close at 5:00pm.
