The date was given by Fiji's permanent secretary for foreign affairs, Amena Yauvoli, to Fijilive and follows a decision by Fiji's and Australia's foreign ministers three weeks ago to hold talks after Fiji last month refused to rejoin the Pacific Islands Forum.

Fiji was suspended in 2009 after its regime reneged on a promise to hold elections the same year.

Fiji has said it won't rejoin unless either Australia and New Zealand quit the Forum or the Forum admits other countries, such as the US and France.

Mr Yauvoli says Fiji is firm that it won't rejoin unless some form of reform is undertaken.

There has been little response from around the region, but such discussions have been welcomed by the head of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community.

Earlier this month, the New Zealand Foreign Minister, Murray McCully, said since it is a meeting of Pacific leaders being proposed he would need to discuss the matter with Prime Minister John Key before offering a view.
