Solomons official reject observers claims

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission says claims by the Commonwealth Observer Group about the lack of accessibility to the country's new biometric voter registration system are unfair.

The observer team was in Solomon Islands to monitor last week's election and its chairperson, Sir Mekere Morauta, says there were reports not all eligible citizens were able to register during the registration period.

But the Solomon Islands chief electoral officer, Polycarp Haununu, disagrees.

"I dont think that's a fair comment because the registration period goes on for 40 days and I think there is enough time for people to go to the voter registration centres to get registered. So I don't think that comment is fair."

That is the Solomon Islands chief electoral officer Polycarp Haununu.
