Fiji's opposition has responded to the government's claims that it is unconstructive and reliant on half-truths and deception, by accusing the government of using selective references.

In Parliament yesterday, the Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum labelled the opposition's contribution to this week's budget debate as one that can't be taken seriously, saying it failed to rise above petty politics and offer constructive advice.

But in a statement, the opposition says Mr Sayed-Khaiyum's right of reply was filled with selective references to reflect the facts the opposition presented during the debate.

It says the minister's claims in the House that Qantas was a high-risk airline, that people were elected to boards on merit, and that the opposition was telling local farmers not to produce anymore milk were highly irresponsible.
