Sport: Joseph Parker faces biggest test

11:40 am on 6 December 2014

The New Zealand-Samoan heavyweight, Joseph Parker, faces the toughest test of his fledgling boxing career when he takes on the Brazilian knockout specialist, Irineu Beato Costa Junior, at the Fight for Life in Hamilton tonight.

Costa Junior is a similar size to Parker and 13 of his 15 professional wins have come by knockout.

It's Parker's fifth fight in seven months and he's describing it as his end of year exam.

"I've had all these tests throughout the year, with all the other opponents and they've been great opponents and good opposition, but with this fight it's going to be the main, end of the year - this is the exam where we have to try and nail it. We're trying to pass this exam and after we pass this exam, hopefully, we're going to go on holiday and relax."

And Parker says that holiday will be with his parents and sisters in Samoa.
