A 6.8 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Bougainville to the north of the Solomon Islands at approximately midday on Sunday, Solomon Islands time.

The quake was at a depth of 10 kilometres.
There are no reports of damage and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawai'i says there is no tsunami threat.
The US Geological Survey says people in Bougainville and northern Solomon Islands should expect aftershocks.
