In response to an urgent question in the house, Pio Tikoduadua says 60 per cent of total water to Suva's supply was wiped out last Sunday when heavy rain triggered a landslide in the Suvaru Hills that burst two main trunk lines.

He says the daily lives of over 112,000 customers in the Suva area have been disrupted and water is being delivered by truck to those in need.

"Since the main trunk collapsed, Madame Speaker, the Water Authority distribution requirement has grown from the initial 67,000 to 112,000 customers, with the numbers changing daily, making the scheduling of delivery difficult to determine, and water cuts commence from 5am to midnight daily."

Pio Tikoduadua says due to a high demand for carted water, people can also fetch their own water from two collection points.
