11:23 am on 12 December 2014

The nominations for the Solomon Islands Speaker of Parliament are expected in the coming days with two names already tipped for the post.

The Solomon Star Newspaper reports that former Prime Minister Sir Allan Kemakeza and Former Home Affairs Minister James Tora are the most likely candidates.

Sir Allan Kemakeza was the previous speaker of parliament who resigned to contest the recent elections for the Savo Russels seat but was unsuccessful and James Tora lost his Ulawa Ugi seat in the elections to new comer Wille Bradford Marau.

The paper reports that Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has indicated an election will take place sometime next week but government house has yet to make the official announcement pending the gazetting of the notice.

Meanwhile the Democratic Coalition for Change government is still being shaped with announcements of the Deputy Prime Minister's post and Ministerial portfolios expected soon.
