The New Zealand construction company McConnell Dowell is challenging an Immigration Office investigation in American Samoa that found it may be in violation of immigration laws.
If the Immigration Board upholds the findings that the company allegedly employed people without proper authorization, it could face fines up to $80,000 US dollars.
Our correspondent Monica Miller says the fines were levied against the company earlier this year following an investigation by Immigration to make sure companies are not employing people illegally.
The company manager Stuart Pilat says McConnell Dowell doesn't believe it violated immigration rules and they're trying to resolve the matter with the Immigration Board, which has the final say on the matter.
