Fiji's opposition whip is calling for the information minister, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, to explain why Fiji TV's broadcast licence has only been extended for 6 months.

Ratu Isoa Tikoca says there is no logical explanation for the six month licence when the state-owned FBC TV has been granted a much longer twelve year licence.

He says the government has been discriminatory and damaging to Fiji TV and has actively worked against the shareholders of the company.

Mr Tikoca says the South Pacific Stock Exchange has also been silent about the recent treatment of one of its publicly listed companies, which he says suggests its neutrality has been compromised by the government.
