3:33 pm on 6 January 2015

The co-leader of the Fiji United Freedom Party has left the party.

In a statement, Nayagodamu Korovou, who's also the founder of the National Youth Party, says it was his decision to withdraw from the party.

He says he expects others will also withrdaw from the party in the coming days, and predicts the demise of the party if that happens.

Mr Korovou did not go into detail about his reasons for leaving the party, but says it is not the end of his political career, and there are other plans on the horizon.

He says he will continue to voice his concerns for the youth of the country, and will spend this year concentrating on his family, career and church responsibilities.
