Probe into Fiji civil servant allegations

4:25 pm on 8 January 2015

Fiji's government says an investigation is to be carried out into allegations made against a senior civil servant who had earlier resigned over conflict with the Education Minister Mahendra Reddy.

The government says a request by Basundra Kumar to withdraw her resignation has been accepted but she is suspended pending the investigation.

Ms Kumar has been acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education.

The Fiji Times earlier published a report by Ms Kumar to government MPs, making allegations against Mr Reddy including cronyism and breaching civil service procedures.

The government says an investigation committee has been set up, chaired by a state solicitor, and it will independently assess the case.
