The announcement was made following a meeting between the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, and Fiji's foreign minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, in Honiara today.

A row between the nations over air service agreements has prevented the national airlines of both countries from flying between Solomon Islands and Fiji since July.

Mr Sogavare's office says his foreign minister, Milner Tozaka, will meet Fiji's Aviation Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum for high-level discussions in a bid to resolve the impasse next week.

Mr Sogavare has says resolving the impasse is paramount for his government, with the peak travel period between the two countries approaching.

Several previous attempts between the two countries to resolve the deadlock have failed.
