Sport: Fiji netballers in race to get match-ready for Tri Series

12:42 pm on 12 January 2015

Fiji netball coach Kate Carpenter admits her squad have a lot of rust to shake out before next week's Oceania Tri Series in Suva.

The Pearls will host New Zealand and Samoa in the four-day tournament, with teams playing each other twice.

It will also be the first time the second-ranked Silver Ferns have played a test in Fiji.

The Pearls haven't played an international match themselves since defending the Pacific Series in June, after Malawi pulled out of a trip to Suva late last year.

Kate Carpenter admits that has made their preparation for next week difficult.

"So, while Samoa were in at the Nations Cup in Singapore and obviously the Ferns had Constellation Cup towards the end of last year, we've had nothing since June. That's the one thing that's the most challenging for us. We haven't been in centralised training. We've got two groups basically, one in Suva and one based on the West. We go into camp as of tomorrow [Monday] so it will give us an opportunity to double our training and spend time together working on combinations, that sort of thing".
