According to Radio Tonga 'Akilisi Pohiva says it's possible that Tonga will run out of its operation fund if there is an additional increase to civil servant salaries.

In his capacity as chairman of the Friendly Island Democratic Party, Mr Pohiva stood together with the Public Service Association and pushed for an increase in salaries.

He says it's important that such an issue should be addressed appropriately.

Mr Pohiva says Tonga is among many countries in the world that allocates most of its budget towards salaries rather than other needs.

The Prime Minister says the government is currently reviewing the operations of its ministries.
