Charges to be finalised in Samoa editor case

12:06 pm on 20 January 2015

The Samoa government newspaper editor, Tupuola Terry Tavita, did not enter a plea when he appeared in the Supreme Court today.

The Chief Justice, Patu Falefatu Sapolu, has accepted an adjournment to allow the prosecution to finalise charges against the suspended editor.

Tupuola Terry Tavita is facing a charge of attempted rape.

He is remanded on bail which includes reporting to police in Apia every week, surrendering his travel documents and passport as well as not contacting the victim.

Police last week said there is a possibility more criminal charges will be laid.

The case will be heard again on Monday.

The accused's case was the first to be called in the long list of criminal cases heard for mention at the start of this year's court proceedings.
