A Fiji government minister has briefly appeared in court on charges of causing death by dangerous driving in 2013.
FBC News says the Minister for Local Government Praveen Kumar Bala was in the Lautoka Magistrates Court but his lawyer secured a deferral of the case until June the 12th.
He is yet to enter a plea.
It is alleged that Mr Kumar fatally hit a 48-year old father of three near Lautoka.
The case had not gone to court last year reportedly because there was a shortage of magistrates, which meant Mr Kumar could stand in the election.
