American Samoa after better internet cable

The undersea cable network in the Pacific could be expanded, with a recommendation in American Samoa to tap in to the system.

The American Samoa Economic Development Implementation Plan says the ageing undersea fiber optic cable between American Samoa, Samoa and Hawai'i should be replaced.

It recommends approaching Hawaiki Cable, which is set to lay a cable linking the USA, Australia, New Zealand and some Pacific countries.

The plan also suggests approaching Samoa, which has a recent deal with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, for a new cable to be laid.
