The Oceania football community is mourning the death of Fijian Under 17 player Shalit Muni Reddy, who drowned on a team excursion in Samoa on Tuesday.

Shalit went missing while swimming in Savaii.

His body was discovered a short time later, following a search, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The midfielder made his international debut for the Fiji Under 17 team earlier this month at the Oceania Championship, and scored in the group stage victory over Cook Islands.

OFC President David Chung says the loss is a tragedy that will be felt throughout Oceania and their thoughts and prayers are with Shalit's friends and familu.

David Chung says Shalit had been playing for Fiji U-17 with distinction, and was a prospect that would have had a bright future in the game.

The case has been referred to the Samoan Police while Oceania Football is working with with the Fiji FA and Football Federation Samoa to repatriate Reddy to his family and friends in Fiji.
