The opposition in Papua New Guinea has called for a Police Ombudsman to be established to deal with reports of police brutality.
The opposition leader, Don Polye, says the government should set up a body to address issues of misconduct by police, as well as reports of killings done by police.
PNG Loop reports that the call comes in the wake of controversy surrounding the alleged police killing of two betel nut vendors in a Port Moresby suburb that sparked a week of protests.
Mr Polye says the Ombudsman must be independent and have powers to prosecute and order compensation.
