More than 500 people turned out for the funeral of Fiji Under 17 football player Shalit Muni Reddy in Nadi on Sunday.
Shalit drowned while swimming in Samoa last week, where he was competing for his country at the Oceania Under 17 Championship.
His body arrived home on Saturday morning and there was a big gathering at the family home prior to the service.
The Chief Executive of the Fiji Football Association, Bob Kumar, says Fiji's assistant Minister for Sport was among the dignitaries in attendance along with all of Shalit's teammates.
"We had the members of our Under 17 team and Under 20 team that is in camp, they were also there. They did the pall-bearing at the cemetery, our players carried the casket at the cemetery, from the hearse to the burial place and people appreciated that".
Bob Kumar says in the coming days Fiji Football will interview team officials who were in Samoa and will receive a report on the incident.
