American Samoa urged to relax visa rules

An air transport study has called for American Samoa to ease its entry requirements for Samoans.

The market study, funded by the United States, says the current immigration process for entry into American Samoa is not the solution to overstayer problems.

Currently travellers from Samoa need to obtain 14-day and and 30-day entry permits prior to arriving in Pago Pago.

But the study says the territory would generate more visits from Samoa if it allows people to obtain entry permits on arrival in Pago Pago.

It also recommends that the territory relax other rules requiring foreign visitors to obtain visas before arrival unless they are on the visa waiver list.
