Reports from Indonesia say the newly formed West Papua Police force is expected to recruit more Papuans as policemen, as part of an empowerment program for Papuans.

The Jakarta Post reports the West Papuan People's Assembly deputy head Anike Sabami saying it hoped locals would be recruited.

A decree last year established the West Papua police and it is headed by a locally born police chief Paulus Waterpauw.
