The newspaper, The National, says this is in response to a Google finding that PNG was the world's most pornography-obsessed country.

PNG has the greatest percentage of searches for the words "porn" and "pornography" compared with the nation's total searches online.

Chief censor Steven Mala says they are not trying to control the medium of communication by introducing the internet filter, but want to filter rubbish which is spoiling the minds of the young children.

PNG and Fiji both featured in the top 10 countries searching for the word pornography.
