The Papua New Guinea Hunters made a big statement, thrashing defending Queensland Cup champions the Northern Pride 46-24 in Cairns last night.

The visitors led 16-6 at halftime and added another six tries in the second spell, in their one and only pre-season match,.

The match was arranged at late notice, after the Hunters game against the Ipswich Jets last weekend was cancelled because of Cyclone Marcia.

The Hunters will officially launch their 2015 season on Sunday in Port Moresby on Sunday, a week before their first competition game away to Souths Logan Magpies.
