Sport: Pacific Oceania Fed Cup team named

The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup tennis team to play in India next month has been announced.

Tahiti's Patrice Cotti will captain the team, with Samoa's Steffi Carruthers the highest-ranked player at 999 in the world.

She is joined by Papua New Guinea's Abigail Tere-Apisah and her niece,14 year old Violet Apisah, who are based in the United States and Australia.

Australian-based Cook Islands representative Brittany Teei rounds out the team, who will travel to Hyderabad early next month.

The April tie involves 12 other teams from India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan.

Pacific Oceania have been active in the Davis Cup since 1995, but last entered a Fed Cup team in 2004.
