The Marshall Islands Attorney General's office has charged a man with murder, just days after it withdrew manslaughter charges against him.

The charges against Joranson Capelle, which had been placed in September last year, were dropped on Friday last week and he was released from custody.

But on Wednesday a new charge of murder was laid over the killing of Nixon Amram in September last year Majuro.

He was also charged with beating and sexually assaulting a woman.

Mr Capelle was caught on the morning of the alleged murder and assaults following a manhunt by police on the small, uninhabited islands that dot Majuro's northern reef.
