West New Britain authorities are appealing to the Papua New Guinea government to declare a state-of-emergency as they say more than seven million US dollars worth of infrastructure has been destroyed in floods.

The Post Courier reports Administrator Williamson Hosea as saying there is an urgent need for financial assistance for emergency infrastructure repairs.
Five bridges and numerous roads have been severely damaged in the flooding, said to be the worst in 20 years.
The provincial government is asking not just for financial assistance but also technical officers to assess the damages.
